ABOUT

Nick McDermott is a performer, composer, and music educator based in Cincinnati, Ohio. A Wisconsin native, he holds a bachelor’s degree in instrumental music education from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville, and a master's degree in trombone and euphonium performance from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. Following his work at UW-Milwaukee, Nick was accepted as a United States Army musician and performed extensively on euphonium and trombone, having been stationed at Fort Drum, New York as part of the 10th Mountain Division Band, and at Fort Sam Houston, Texas as part of “Fort Sam’s Own” 323rd Army Band.

After leaving the Army in 2021, Nick began his doctorate in euphonium performance at the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music. Outside his doctoral work, Nick is an active composer and arranger, and freelances in the Cincinnati area.

Decades of experience playing euphonium and trombone, and able to perform on tuba.

Capable of teaching in a wide range of situations, from one-on-one lessons to ensemble and classroom settings.

Composing and Arranging

An avid composer and arranger, with works for a variety of ensembles, from classical chamber groups to New Orleans brass bands.

Computer Music and Music Technology

Skilled with both hardware and software, and able to code using Max, Pure Data, and RTcmix, with multiple electronic and electro-acoustic compositions.
